End of Season Get Together

The End of Season Get Together and Curry Night has been postponed until Wednesday 8th October.

A chance to get together to chat over the seasons events and an opportunity to air your views on what you liked and disliked about the years calendar etc. Whilst tackling the challenging quiz, give us your suggestions as to what you would like to see added to next years activities.

The Dinghy Handicap Captain and the Cruiser Captain will be elected at this meeting. If you are interested in standing, please let Richard Gunn know ASAP.

Dinghy and cruiser owners new and old all welcome.

Sword Sands Fun Sail Report

Many different boats set off just after 11.00 on the 6th September for the Swords Sands Fun Day. We had a Kestrel, Vareo, Topper, Pico, Comet, Europe, Enterprise, Leader, Wayfarer, Laser 2000, an Escape Rumba a cruiser and of course the patrol boat. We flew kites, played rounders, played boules and sailed our boats on Russells Lake. The weather was variable we had a mixture of cloud, sun, rain, light wind then a little too much wind for the return trip home. The BBQ was the perfect way to finish off the day. Good fun was had by all.

You can contact me by any of the following methods:<\p>
  • A note in the Sailing Secretary's pigeon-hole in the club house.
  • Email to sailingsec@tudorsc.co.uk

Website Problems

Apologies for the recent website problems that visitors may have been experiencing. These appear to have been caused by software upgrades made by the hosting company that is currently being used. These changes have for some reason been incompatible with some of the key scripts used and the matter is under investigation.
At the same time a planned migration to new hosting services is already in progress. This will be completed by the end of September and will eliminate issues of this sort. It will also make available new facilities that will allow a number of site upgrades to be completed.

Dinghy Cruise Report

14 boats (24 people) left Tudor on the hottest day of the year, in fairly light winds. The Inshore forecast ranged from variable east to southeast 2/3 to northwest to north 4 so I had fingers crossed that the wind suited us through the Binness Channel. As planned we went across from the slip round Oyster Island and through the Binness channel, 18 of our company were particularly looking forward to this as they had not been through here before. One person left us at this point to return for his dinner. A tack East to the bottom of Long Island and over past the new Oyster bed to beach at Hayling where we walked up to the garage for an ice cream. From here we sailed to Rod buoy where another person had to return to the club. From Rod we went through the perched channel and halfway down Sinah Lake. We retraced our steps and went back through to Rod. A short trip up to Sword Sands where we stopped for lunch and met another three boats from Tudor who hadn't been able to join us for the whole day. I'm pleased to say that we had three new members join us for this trip, it is a great way to get to know other people.

Dinghy Criuse on Sunday 10th August

Leaving slip at 10 a.m. sharp. Don't forget to bring suitable clothing (it can get cold), buoyancy aid, lunch and a little cash. Obviously this trip will depend upon the weather but what we hope to do is: Sail up past the cruisers, head east and round Oyster Island, then north and through the Binnes Channel. We will then sail down, round the bottom of Long Island and across to Hayling Island - have lunch and buy an ice cream. We can then decide if we want to go further around Hayling shore or go down Langstone Channel, if it is a sunny day we can stop off at Sword Sands, then back to Tudor. A rough estimate of time 10a.m. - 3p.m. For further details or to let me know you are joining us (I need an idea of numbers).

Impromptu dinghy cruise

On Sunday 20th July eight dinghies set out to see Langstone at Low Tide. With winds of 4 gusting 5 and some less experienced sailors in the group we didn't get quite as far as we had planned but we did sail for three hours in all. We sailed up Langstone Channel and then back to have lunch on Sword Sands. After lunch we sailed through the channel that bisects Swords Sands and runs from Langstone Channel to Russell Lake. If we get any more interest I would be happy to do this again. I would also be happy to lead a sail through the Binness Channel.

Novice day & Hayling cruise

Novice Day, good turn out of people wanting to improve their sailing. Perfect weather. Good day all round.

Round Hayling Cruise 20 dinghies turned up for this event, from Toppers to a Drascombe Lugger. The weather again was very kind to us, the wind was a little light but better this than too much. Of the 20 boats only 5 had been out of the harbour before so it was a great adventure. We lunched on the beach outside HISC, then set off for Langstone Bridge where we were met by a couple of members who helped us get the 17 boats over the road, 3 went under the bridge. Across Langstone to Tudor at about 1700.

Would anyone be interested in a 'Let's take a look around Langstone' dinghy cruise? We could visit Oyster and Long Island go through the Binness channel. Contact Linda Vacher.

Events update

The Saturday Series is underway but there are still 3 more races to go. This series is especially set for the new or rusty sailors. The courses are set near to the club and are usually quite short. The patrol boat is allowed to give on the water advice in this series if you would like them to.

The Novice Day is on the 31st May at 10.00 hours. We have arranged an experienced race officer who will be available to give help if asked for. A couple people from the sailing committee have also offered their help to crew or do whatever is required. We have a short briefing before we set out onto the water. It is very helpful to know what sort of things you hope to get out of the day in plenty of time. Please send me an e.mail with details. We expect the sailing day to last until about 4 o'clock(ish) so you will need to bring a packed lunch. An ideal way to meet other members.

The Round Hayling Island (dinghy) Cruise - 5th July. A great full days sailing! This is not a race and we tend to sail in sight of each other. After a briefing, we leave the slip at about 10.00 hours, we go out of our harbour, along Hayling seafront and into Chichester Harbour entrance, we stop for lunch on the beach by HISC and then sail up Chichester harbour to Langstone bridge. We take the boats over the road (or drop mast and go under bridge) on trailers loaned by LSC. After this we sail down Langstone, then up Broom channels back to TSC (usually arriving around 17.30hours). The patrol boat accompanies us around the island. Sorry no unaccompanied cadets.

Sword Sands fun day is a bit later this year Sat 6th September 11.00 hours A day for dinghy and cruiser sailors young and old. A short sail down to the sands in Langstone Harbour. The patrol boat is available to take down your lunch, buckets and spades, kites etc. Last year we were lucky enough to be joined by a seal who watched us from the opposite bank, (s)he didn't seem to mind the many boats that sailed past to have a closer look. A couple of us sailed down to have a look at Oyster Island a bit further up Russells Channel.

Needless to say all the above events are subject to the weather. Please contact me at lindavacher@hotmail.com if you have any questions or would like any further details.

I am currently testing a couple of weather information systems for the site. The use different technologies to integrate into the site and I would appreciate any comments or problems you may have with them. You can take a look by going to the new Weather page. Once it has been tested for a while and under different browsers and platforms I will integrate it into the site properly.
